Not much given away by the cover, it's very plain. I have heard of the author but have not read her books as it's not a genre I generally read.
From the first impression, it looks pretty typical of the style of writing I would expect from the era. The descriptions and setting for the characters is, as anticipated, detailed and spares no gory.
