A work of historic fiction set around Dorset during the civil war. the protagonist is a female physician with a background in a Royalist family, who show no political allegence when treating patients.
This book is a pleasant read, although I found it a bit superficial, the characters do not have any real depth of personality, and the author fails to create the tension necessary in a good novel, I think this is particularly important during times of unrest such as the civil war, there is a feeling of political neutrality running through the book which does not seem realistic and the mentality and beliefs of both sides is not highlighted. The romantic interest is very predictable. I do not see how a female healer during these times fails to be labelled as a witch by some of the puritans she encounters.
This sounds like a critical review but the book is a good easy read for lovers of historic fiction.
