This story is about two complex characters which are Jayne and William Harrier two very different people who find one another by chance, forming a tasteful yet inspiring relationship built on vulnerability, trust, respect and acceptance each helping the other guide themselves through the present. Both Jayne and William have their personal battles and the way such sensitive topics like the civil war were written was exceptional. I truly felt their pain and trauma as though it were my own. This magnificent story pulls on the heartstrings of even the toughest of souls. This is an excellent structured story very much a poignant enemy to lovers history/romance books. However I must say, the cover was what drew me in the most it could be inferred that the dove at the top is a symbolism of their jury together as people but could also be a symbol of peace and tranquillity during those hard times. I would love to read more books like this and indulge in this marvellous masterpiece that Minette Walters created.
