This book is based around the civil war. It’s. Choice of two sides the King or parliament, which do you fall on? I haven’t read a book written by Minette Walters before, it’s not a genre I tend to go for so my star rating may reflect that. This adventure follows Jane Swift, she is neither a follower of the king or parliament she is more interested in helping the sick and doesn’t care which side they fall upon. When her sister writes a letter asking for her help Jane must risk her life in order to help him, without her sisters husband Samuel Morecott finding out, as he had banished her from the house. This story is a story of love, the love of a swift and a harrier, a love that shouldn’t work, for both have different opinions and beliefs when it comes to the war but that somehow brings them closer together. This story is easy to read, it’s a story that you can visualise as you read, it’s descriptive, it has likeable characters. The cover of the book is a beautiful dark blue with golden lettering which stands out. This story was written during the pandemic, a difficult time for many.
