I was instantly intrugued as the book starts with Christians being led to their deaths.
Unfortunately, the book then seemed to lacks excitement. The writing style is long and almost unwieldy, reminiscent of much older books. Furthermore it seems driven more so by a desire for historical facts than character development. Throughout the entire extract I failed to grasp any sense of who our main character truly is. I'd hope he'd develop further as the book progresses.
