Learning a little about the history of Japan was an added extra in this spell binding story.
The characters were brought to life by the mesmerising descriptions of both the people and the landscapes.
The trials and tribulations of Farther Joaquim in his endeavours to spread word of his religion and keep the people of like minds safe is a very interesting story.
The Shogan and his followers are determined to eradicate the Father and his followers and their ideas of Christianity.
There brutal treatment of these people is horrific.
Father Joaquim has so much faith in what he believes, he is an inspiration to all those who follow him and a force that the Shogun cannot defeat.
Not my usual genre but I throughly enjoyed a different kind of novel.
