This is the story of how a prisoner in the concentration camp becomes the person who inflicts one of the most recognisable symbols for the prisoners. I find the fact that the nazi guards gave such a horrible job to a fellow Jewish person just awful. During his time as the tattooist he meets a young girl and instantly falls in love. I think this book perfectly shows how many prisoners also made themselves responsible for the welfare of others and how they really banded together to get through such an atrocious part of their lives. I have read many books about this time period and about jewish concentration camp prisoners. This one was extremely fascinating and gave a different insight into what happened in those awful places. The writer has written this in such a way that it explains everything well but doesn’t glamourise what was happening. A must read!
