This is an incredibly moving book based on a true story from an Auschwitz survivor! A tough read in places but really eye opening. The story itself is beautiful alongside the trauma, with the writing being incredibly suited to the story. Heather captures the essence of the story whilst keeping the dignity of the people as best she could.
The actual story of Auschwitz is widely known, and a heart breaking one - however this story portrays the day to day life of those within the camps, and the lives the could go on to lead afterwards.
Overall a beautifully sad and important story everyone should read. The information about Lale’s story at the end, and Heather’s visits to him and the camp give some much needed background for those maybe not as familiar with the details of the horrific events that took place during the 1940s.
