I thoroughly enjoyed this book and found it to be a wonderful sequel to Minette Walters previous book, "The Last Hours". Usually medieval historical fiction isn't my area of interest, but the author keeps the story tense and full of intrigue. You follow the same characters as the previous book, primarily Lady Anne and Thaddeus Thurkell, and you see them progress and develop even more. Lady Anne is by far my favourite character. She is a woman of science and logic- her mind is rather modern and beyond her time.
I liked that Walters recapped over the major plot elements from the first book in the first few chapters of this story, as I then felt I remembered enough to confidently read this book without needing to flick back to the previous book.
All in all, a great historical read!
