This is the second part of Minette Walters historical novel based in the 1340’s. Lady Anne has saved many of her people by quarantining them from contact with others who may have the Black Death. With dwindling resources they have no choice but to try to find more food in the desolate wasteland outside Develish.
This is a very well written novel, with a pacey plot that kept me reading far longer than I intended. The characters are well crafted and I found them believable and engaging. It’s a well researched expedition into a way of life, religion and politics very different to modern day.
This is a different genre to this authors previous books but she’s successfully changed direction and I can recommend this book without hesitation.
