Martha Hopkins is special. She can tell things about a person just by touching his or her clothes. It’s like emotions and memories have been absorbed into the material. It all started after an accident. Martha wants to understand her strange ability so she runs away because she need answers. She wants to visit her grandmother, Mormor - only to discover that her granny is dead, a peculiar boy is in her cabin and a terrifying creature is on the loose…

„The Twisted Tree“ is the debut novel by Rachel Burge.

My opinion:
The book consists of 27 chapters. Some of them are rather short. The book is written in the first person. I liked that.

The writing style is fluent and easy to read. I didn’t find it difficult to get into the story.

After the first chapters I was intrigued. I didn’t know what to expect, though. Unfortunately some parts of the book were disappointing.

The main character, Martha, is interesting and well developed. I liked her from the beginning. I enjoyed following Martha explore her family history. And the romance part was good, too. Although I’m still not sure what to think about Stig. But because of the fantasy aspect the book couldn’t grab me.

Overall, it was an enjoyable read but the fantasy thing is not my cup of tea I guess.
