I loved this book although the subject is very sad.
It is about how the members of an Irish family deal with the unexpected death of the eldest child. The father, Big Billy Brennan, is determined to transform his life - to try and make some sense of the death by bringing it to the attention of as many people as possible and hopefully saving the lives of others. He embarks upon an immense challenge - to shed half of his 400lb body weight and organises a march with associated publicity. The other members of the family prefer to grieve more quietly not in the public eye.
The writing is honest and well crafted. A very moving and thought provoking book - likely to be remembered by the reader for a long time after he has turned the final page.
