All I can hear as I read is the author's voice...

I enjoyed the opening of the book - although I do hear the narrator's voice as Robert Peston's voice, so he does sound rather pessimistic...

Also, you do wonder just how much of himself Robert Peston is channelling into the central character, take for example Gil Peck's opening thoughts:
"As a glory-seeking journalist, I sometimes reveal scandals."
and
"In my more pretentious moments, I justify what I do as empowering ‘the people’ " are just a couple of examples that one could read between the lines with...

The concept for the book isn't anything new, but from the extract it seems to be worth reading more of, if you can manage to give the central character, a political journalist, a difference voice in your head.

I like the cover - it seems apt for the subject matter.

This is actually my first impression, which I forgot to upload before the closing date...oops!
