Gil Peck's sister is knocked off her bike and dies, which is suspicious because she wasn't wearing a helmet and was involved in controversial government work.

Gil uses his investigative journalism skills to uncover the true picture. Peston's debut novel seems almost autobiographical in that his sister, Juliet, was hospitalised after a road collision was involved in a road accident but fortunately she lived.

It does make the reader question how much of the fictional story is true or a slight exaggeration, rather than just something written purely for entertainment value. Many of the characters resemble real life high profile government figures but the sheer number of bland Politian's in the book did make it hard to match up to reality. It would have been very helpful to have had character profiles at the front of the book but it may not have helped I didn't read the book in one go.
