A heart warming saga about a family living in Kent from 1903 to 1926.
The Winter Baby, Heather, was born on Christmas day to 17 year old runaway Kathleen Clancy. Kathleen was taken in by Jessie and her 2 sons and became part of her family, helping with the animals, crops and brickmaking.
The book has a lovely feel good factor full of love and caring for others. It is full of nostalgia for the old country ways when everyone worked hard, helped others and shared what they had. It also describes life during the First World War for those sent abroad and those left behind in England.
Although I'm not usually a fan of this type of book, The Winter Baby was a delightful easy read. I'm now encouraged to read the rest of Sheila Newberry's books.
