A Realistic Read

After reading the first look of "These Days", I was really keen to read the full book. I have read fiction set in the war but it has all been based in London, so I was interested to read about the experience in Northern Ireland. The book was really well written with a good story, centred around one family. Unfortunately I did not enjoy the book as much as I had expected. This was largely because it was very realistic, at least I imagine it was. There were detailed descriptions of people searching for loved ones and several fatalities. Whilst good from a historical perspective, I found it difficult to read, particularly in the current climate. I found it a little depressing and wouldn't necessarily recommend it as bedtime reading! I have read books from the "Rationbook" series and would say this is a more serious version 9f that type of book. Overall, a good book but not for people looking for a light read.
