Enjoyable but not wholly for me

There are many things that I like about this book. Firstly, I liked the characters. They seemed relatable and like they’d been well researched.

I also liked the historical backdrop. It’s clearly something that has been looked at in great detail, I could picture relevant parts in my head and did feel like I was reading a true representation of the time period. If you’re into your historical fiction, then this absolutely is for you.

The novel is quite short which does mean that sometimes some details are lacking. But that didn’t ruin the story for me but I totally see how it could be frustrating.

My biggest issue was the lack of speech marks. I don’t even know where to begin with that and I found myself just getting annoyed that they weren’t there.

Yet, the Irish-isms were true to form and did give the novel a genuine feel to it.

All in all, an okay book for me.
