This book 'These Days' by Lucy Caldwell was enjoyable to read. I liked the cover of this historical fiction book which made me want or read more. The novel follows the sisters Audrey and Emma and their time the Belfast blitz in 1941. I surpose I had not thought previously much about Belfast and the blitz as often this period is focused on London so i gained some insight. One of the sisters is wondering if her heart is truly with a boy she is set on marrying and the other sister has feelings for a female work colleague and the book explores both of these themes which I felt provided a good structure to the book.

The background of the book being set in the war time era gives the common theme of togetherness and community spirit which we are probably all familiar with. The story did make me stop and think about this era and I would definitely recommend this book.
