This wartime story based during the Belfast blitz is a raw and emotional read. The reader is drawn into the lives of those trying to survive the bombings and destruction all around them and the author does not hold back in describing the daily horrors witnessed. Yet amidst the death and suffering, this is a story of family and love as well.

The book is mainly based around two characters there is Audrey who is planning her wedding to a doctor, and her sister Emma who has taken another woman as her lover in a secretive relationship. Over four nights of constant bombing they fight to survive, search for loved ones amongst the dead and see sights that will stay with them and change them.

I enjoyed reading this book, the style of writing was easy to follow and very descriptive giving a real sense of atmosphere. The author has clearly done a lot of research into what happened during the blitz which makes it a fascinating and interesting read.
