The story was so different to what I expected. The story of a man, desperate to forget his past by manufacturing a future. A future he pursues meticulously, which makes reading it anxiety provoking and eye opening. I genuinely gasped and read on with shock at the extent of Abe's actions to pursue a certain future, a future he is sure will make his past disappear. Inevitably, his desperation to escape his past makes him forget the present and by the time his longed-for future becomes the present, it is far too late to realise his pursuit will destroy him. A truly unique and astonishing story, beautifully written with excellent, thoroughly thought out characters. A truly fantastic debut mystert, which I wholeheartedly recommend to anyone.
