I really don't know how to sum up my feelings about this book. Chris Whitaker is a new author to me, and I'm kind of feeling I must have been living under a stone not to have heard about him before now. We Begin At The End is quite simply, the most beautifully crafted story I've read in a long time. As soon as I started it, Chief Walker came alive in my head and I read the whole story as if narrated by him. His voice and character were so clear to me. And what about our outlaw, Duchess Day Radley? That girl is now fixed in my heart. I loved her so much, and cried for her several times whilst turning the pages. All the main characters in this book will touch you in their own way. I cried myself to sleep after finishing it, and I will be thinking about it for along time to come.
This novel is so, so sad, with a cast of beautifully drawn characters struggling to live a life of meaning. A number of puzzles and dilemmas will keep readers thinking for a long time after they’ve finished.
