This was a slow burner for me but a story that I ultimately really enjoyed. A tragic event opens the book and I was initially gripped. But my attention wavered and i wasn't sure I would complete the book. But it turned a corner and then my interest was reignited. The characters are well written and I liked them all for different reasons. I loved the relationship between Duchess and her brother and later her relationship with her grandfather. The story was full of atmosphere and the backdrop was beautiful. I thought the story was going in a certain direction and was convinced I'd worked out the ending. I hadn't! The story is a tragic tale of family, love and loyalty which will stay with me.
