After closing the final page of this book, I immediately knew that the main character, Robin Wilde, would stick with me for life. It is hard not to admire a single mum dealing with the hardships of raising a child alone, trying to make her way in the makeup industry and pushing through failed relationship after failed relationship. The heartwarming connection between herself and Lyla gives the book a warmth and a sense of familiarity that comes with seeing a family unit stick together through good times and bad.

The pace of the book fits perfectly with the narrative of Robin Wilde, taking the reader through a year's journey between two New Years' Eves. While her personal situation doesn't change much in regards to her relationship with men, Robin comes to realise that the love she receives from her daughter, Auntie Kath, and her two school mum chums is more than enough. Robin shows that through humour, determination and gratitude, there is always something beautiful in life to appreciate!
