Honestly didn't think I would enjoy this and I did indeed find it a very tough read.
One of my biggest fears as a huge reader is losing my eyesight and this book totally focused on that situation.
The story revolves around Ross Malory who is diagnosed with an aggressive yet rare form of eye cancer.
He has a lot to deal with being a kid at the time of his diagnosis, the fear of surgery, saying goodbye to his sight and the world around him, the prognosis, the intense alternative treatment they attempt but most of all from a child's point of view the feeling of being different and alienated from his peers.
But the story is based on the author's own experiences of this with the difference he went through it all as an adult of 37 but this was written empathetically from a child's point of view and as an inspiration to other children in similar situations.
Dealt with in a sympathetic manner with lots of jokes and a lot of feeling and emotion along the way this was a brilliant read, although the subject matter almost broke me and totally put me off even attempting to read it, this was well worth it.
