With the Fire on High was such a wonderful and enjoyable read. Emoni was such a lovely character and the passion for food and cooking, as well as her love for her daughter and grandmother was just beautiful. It was described in such depth.
Emoni had all the best attributes for a YA protagonist and she was a very likeable character. Which is everything I love! It’s so hard to get into a book with unlikeable characters but thankfully, I had none of that with this book.
All the others characters were also really loveable. Particularly, Emoni’s grandmother who was such a strong and wonderful woman. She was such a brilliant role model and caregiver. She instilled such strong values into Emoni and you could really see how she’d shaped her.
In addition, all the food talk was so well described, it had me dreaming of the recipes. I was practically salivating at the pages!!
