Although this book is verging on the side of TV drama in it's style, I did enjoy reading it. It was gripping in parts, and downright scary in others, but all in all it was pretty good. Crime fiction as a genre is difficult to get right and I'd say this comes pretty close. I hadn't realised, before I started reading, that this is one of a series, so there was clearly some backstory I'd missed, but I don't think that detracted from the book at all. It was interesting to see how the conflict unfolded within each character but I'd say my main complaint is that it wasn't really believable. It almost verged on fantasy but was written in a 'true' style which was a bit confusing. I think perhaps if I had read the whole series it might not have felt like that, but that is how it came across. Although I don't feel compelled to go out and find the first one, I'd recommend perhaps starting at the first book in the series.
