Right from the start, I felt I knew Detective Cody. He had been through some difficult cases including child abduction and being captured by some criminals dressed as clowns who had abused him physically. He was being forced to see a psychologist to try to come to terms with what he'd been through but was reluctant to admit that he actually wasn't coping well at all.

When the murder case he was investigating showed links to his previous encounters, his work and home life collided and he was left in quite a state.

All the time, the murder victim's wife was doing all she could to track down the evil gang responsible for her husband's gruesome demise. With a background in the army, it seemed she was doing a good job too.

I had my suspicions of who was responsible throughout the book and I was correct, but this didn't take away from the suspense and I still read the book in a day, desperate to find out what happened.
