An enjoyable psychological thriller. The opening chapter sets the tone of the ever increasing tension. I really liked the twist that, despite the main plot being the investigation of an horrific killing, the widow of the murdered man is not the main victim in the story. That role is designated to the vulnerable and human policeman on the investigation team, DS Nathan Cody, who has to face chilling dilemmas and continues to be tormented by a previous case.
There are some clever, unexpected plot lines throughout and I did have to keep reading a bit more, so I finished the book in a couple of days.
I haven't read any of the previous books but the back story was fitted in well, so I could catch up quickly. I'm intrigued enough to want to read the back catalogue.
The ending was neat but has left me wanting more. I look forward to the next instalment in Cody's 'unravelling'.
