The opening page is gripping and straight away has made me want to know who is narrating it. They say their father must die ‘for what he has done’. But do they wish to kill their father because they say he once attempted to murder them, or for some other reason?

Chapter 1 then introduces us to Nikki, Ethan and their six year old daughter Bella. They have gone to visit a one of a kind house on Church Row and upon approaching the house are greeted by ‘Alice’ a virtual assistant who opens the door for them and directs them in to the kitchen where the architect who designed the house is waiting for them. She explains that Alice is a new generation of artificial intelligence designed to meet your needs before you even realise you have them. From the end of the first chapter it is clear that the family end up moving in and already I wonder if they will enjoy living in the house and if their lives will be as idyllic as the architect alludes to. Or is there something more sinister behind ‘Alice’ when this technology is the first of its kind? I’m also intrigued to find out the reason behind Ethan and Nikki’s decision to live somewhere as ‘secure’ as Church Row and why their daughter Bella uses a tablet to type in to, which then speaks for her.
