This is my first book by James Carol, and sadly I wasn't gripped but that's just me...judge for yourselves.
'17 Church Row' holds the slightly creepy and futuristic conundrum of control via artificial intelligence in the guise of Alice. There's a vision of both the positives and the negatives of having an AI system controlling your home. Having an Alexa in our house, admittedly not operating at all on the level of the Alice in this book - it's a great convenience but also makes you think of the wider implications.
This book is also about grief and coping with great loss and trauma. The loss of a child is such an emotive story line and this part made more compelling reading, but I wanted more development a depth, but that's just me. Have a read and see what you think!
