A very original type of thriller that puts artificial intelligence as the villain. An emotionally distressed couple and their little daughter who are trying to come to terms with the death of their daughter’s twin in a tragic road accident outside their home. The husband is desperately searching for a new house to try and erase the memories. He finds a state of the art house that is controlled by AI. The husband falls in love with the house but the wife is unsure but reluctantly agrees to move. From the beginning her doubts are realised as a series of strange events start to take place including the death of their beloved housemaid. The story takes a very sinister twist about half way though when the daughter is “kidnapped” by the computer system that controls the house. This novel will certainly hold your attention but you have to accept certain things that are frankly hard to believe. However it does raise the notion of how far we can let AI control our lives. Certainly worth a read and will be very interested in what the author delivers in their next book. Recommended.
