Ok,so this was a modern thriller, with a good premise.
The initial beginning and scene setting was good, the characters and dynamics were explained and the story moved at a decent pace.

It's a freaky concept, the dream house that anticipates your needs before you do, ideal for a fresh start for a family trying to move on with their lives, until things start going wrong with the system. Unfortunately the way the rest of this story developed wasn't great

The general plot and what is about to happen when becomes fairly clear , but this could have still been enjoyable, and was in certain respects, but it was a bit less of a thought provoking thriller on the powers of A.I and human dependence on technology, more a slightly generic read with some techy elements thrown in.

I think a big part of the problem with this is that there's very little character development and I really struggled to care about what was happening to the main 3 family characters. Whilst the trauma and grief they suffered goes someway to explain this, it still feels a bit bland, and isn't really countered by a surprising story arc.

(Not to mention the other characters who played supporting roles but had no real depth seeming to only pop up for flashes of dialogue with the lead characters or provide key information/actions for the plot to progress)

This was a shame because whilst I didn't dislike the story I read the whole thing wanting something more to sink my teeth into, and 17 Church Row didn't quite deliver, despite multiple areas where I thought it was going to leap into a dynamic twist or change of pace.

I think it's still 3 stars because it was a decent read, just didn't deliver on the full potential
