This is a near future book that accurately portrays what many people fear, that machines may take over. The characters are not always as they seem and have pasts that are constantly catching up with them. The way it is written is very sophisticated and allows an immersive experience that allows you to empathise with the main family and their ever increasing pains whilst also feeling sympathy at times for ALICE but also fear and anger towards her at times as her history and sophistication is gradually informed to the reader. The story is also ever evolving throughout the book and when one problems pains subsides for the Rhodes a new bigger problem is created. When reading this book you can never be sure what’s going to happen next and who, if anyone, can be trusted. This book is a fantastic addition to the literary world due to the increasing reality that it addresses and the credibility of the fears many people have in todays world.
