An enjoyable thriller

This is the first book that I've read that's set within the Covid-19 pandemic, and I wasn't sure if this would be a good thing or whether it would all feel a bit too close to home. My conclusion, after reading the book, is that it's a clever setting for now but it may not strike the same chord in a few years time. It felt easy to relate to a lot of the 'locked down' emotions at the moment, as it's so fresh in our minds, but I imagine (and hope) that those will fade over time, and it will then become a little less relatable in years to come.

Having said that, I thought the author used the pandemic in a clever way and it was a good setting for the story. Of course the story might have worked without the pandemic - it's not impossible for someone to move in with a new partner and cut themselves off from previous contacts - but it added a sense of jeopardy and isolation that otherwise wouldn't have been there.

Overall, I gave this book four stars as it was a decent thriller with some good twists and turns, but I didn't love the cover design. I don't think it reflects how dark the story can be, but enjoyed the story nonetheless once I got past the cover!
