I was a bit unsure about reading a book set in lockdown, but I think the key here is that this isn't a book about lockdown or Covid, that is simply the setting and allows for certain elements of the plot. I loved the way Howard moved back and forward in time to reveal things at key points. I had no hope of guessing what was going on here ahead of the game, and there were so many shocking reveals that I was constantly surprised. I found it really hard to put down.

Because of the lockdown setting, there wasn't a big cast of characters, which added to the feeling of claustrophobia that Howard created. I found the two protagonists compelling and really enjoyed being surprised by their actions and histories as the novel progressed. I will definitely be seeking out more books from this author, as this was one of the most immersive and intelligent thrillers I've read for a long time.
