The blurb gives quite a bit away about a ( possibly not ) perfect murder set in Dublin just before the beginning of the Covid pandemic. We start with an incident at a block of flats. Then flashback to 55 days ago when Ciara meets Oliver in a supermarket and there’s that awkward first conversation. The story then switches to a bizarre scene featuring an abandoned, post coital, handcuffed policeman being freed by his partner …who is ever so slightly sardonic. the phone rings and they are called ….to the incident at the block of flats. I still have absolutely no idea what the bizarre scene was doing in this book! How did the rest of it was very enjoyable. We get alternative points of view from Ciara and Oliver and we soon begin to get an idea of what may very well have happened. This is soon confirmed by a reference to a very well remembered and horrifying event in England. A few twists and turns inevitably. However I think most readers will work it out pretty soon-even if it means going back to check on the exact wording in certain chapters! However the tension is kept up by the thought that there may very well be one final twist. Equally interesting was the perspective of the protagonists, which possibly reflects that of the author, to Covid and, as things develop, to the restrictions. These do provide a unique opportunity to allow the isolation required for development of this particular mystery. I expect most readers will enjoy comparing the perspectives in the book with what they remember of our own no more than a year or so ago
