I was really intrigued by the premise of this book and actually felt ready to read a story set during the pandemic. The atmosphere of 56 Days is tense and brooding and, while initially it seems as thought this my be an unusual romance story, you know something is going to go dreadfully wrong as there will be a dead body at the end of it!!

I did not warm to either of the main characters, maybe we as readers are not meant to as we cannot fully trust them. I found the timeline very confusing as we flip back and forth, and re-writing the chapters from each character's perspective just felt lazy as times as they were word for word the same at points! I did like the investigative team in the 'today' chapters and the banter between them added some light relief.

Overall I did not find this book gripping or twisty enough for a genuine thriller. Although it was good in parts I felt like I wanted to rush some sections of it and skip to the end. I have heard The Nothing Man by the same author is much better so will give that one a go next.
