I couldn't get enough of this book, this is a real-page turner! Set at the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic you might feel apprehensive about reading a book set during this time but, it took me right back to those initial unexpected emotions and situations, like the shops running out of bread mix because you're not the only one to have that great idea! Feeling worried about being stopped when you go out because you don't have a good enough reason to be at the supermarket and the surreal experience of having to queue up to shop alone, only allowed to buy essential items and following a one-way system, whilst keeping a distance from anyone else. Set at the beginning of the first lockdown it was all so new and we didn't yet experience the stress of people being ill, or isolated, and we didn't know how long it would all last. A very clever setting for a book which allows us to think back to all of our shared experiences we can relate to from the start of the pandemic.

When Ciara met Oliver and they decided to spend the 2-week lockdown together this led to them sharing these emotions, in the confined space of his stylish apartment. They got to know one another and all was going very well. But, we know something is going to happen because the book takes us back and forth between the present day - when a body is found in the apartment to Ciara and Oliver meeting and how their dating progressed. The way the book is set out we were kept in the dark, first of all as to who the body was, then of course how they came to be in that state. The Garda investigation led to some interesting discoveries and I enjoyed the crime element to the book.

I loved the way the author allows us to think we know which way it's going to go and then with a twist it changes the whole way the wind blows! I had to re-read a section twice just to make sure I had read it correctly! Knowing what we do then changes the direction and just when I think I know what will happen another twist comes. This is a book you should follow the events of at face value to allow yourself the full experience of being swept along in the mystery. Don't overthink things just allow yourself to be immersed!

Very compelling, this is a book I highly recommend and has convinced me not to worry about reading a book set during lockdown. The author's notes at the end are very poignant to look back on and think about what has changed and what hasn't since March of last year. A few years ago this would have sounded a very bizarre concept for a book but, we weren't to know this could ever happen and it's actually a very creative way to set a thriller. The way Oliver and Ciara had to keep themselves to themselves allowed their relationship to be kept under wraps, no one knew where they were or what they were doing. In this locked room environment their time together was surrounded by mystery and under a cloud of secrecy, were they just new lovers using the time to get to know one another, or was there more to it.

I enjoyed that this was not only a thriller but, with the crime and investigation being a core part as well as the characters themselves. Twisty, dark and shocking I really loved this and highly recommend it!
