We are brought into London in 1938, just before the Second World War started and there are political rumblings across Europe.
The book introduces two worlds - that of the high class Buckingham Hotel and that of Whitechapel. To start with they are joined by ballroom dancer Raymond de Guise better known to his Whitechapel friends as Ray Cohen.
