I wasn’t expecting too much after reading the blurb, as I am not a fan of either Downton Abbey or Mr Selfridge. I was not therefore unduly disappointed. I don’t think I could read much more of this. The language is very ornate. I’m not sure that anybody really talks like that, or did in 1938. I think the author’s search of the thesaurus hasn’t always come up with the right word. Good to see all the stereotypical characters present and correct. I’m sure it will be a great success due to the popularity of the author. But I’ll give it a miss
