Having not read any other books in this series I found it a little difficult to keep track fo the character's back stories and it took me a while to get to know the characters. The idea of this book is lovely, but it wasn't very festive. The title is quite misleading as there is only one chapter at the end which is about Christmas.
The characters are simple, but well written and you do get a lovely feel of the Buckingham hotel and of the era in which it is set.
It hasn't tempted me to read any of the other books in the series, as I find the language at a little stilted and I didn't feel drawn into the book. It was quite difficult to keep reading, as there are sections where not a lot actually happens in the story.
Having said that, overall the atmosphere of the book is good and it is a light read. Not sure it's on par with Downton of Mr Selfridge, a bit more reminiscent of the TV series the Halcyon.
