Fifth novel in a series and I can’t understand the appeal of Poldark!

That this is the fifth novel in a series dismays me as I expect the book would entail a hefty amount of backstory covering last events before the events of the book get underway. I am not a romance reader and a historic love triangle with a torn woman is just not my thing. The Cornwall setting is usually welcome from me but the comparison to Poldark and a time period when women behaved more obediently and demur to men is something I find depressing!
