It's clear that this series has a loyal and enthusiastic following but, as I haven't read the four earlier stories I'm sure I'd find it just too frustrating to try to pick up the various storylines which will, inevitably, have links to the past. Also, as a huge fan of the Poldark series, I think I probably wouldn't have been attracted even had this been the first book.
