Lovely endearing historical novel from the 1790s based on the main character Amelia Carew and how a betrothed who she had been told had died fighting at sea many years previously returns to the Cornish shores . He is a changed man and not the man she originally fell in love with. Meanwhile in the intervening years a young Doctor has caught Amelia's eye and a love triangle thus emerges where she has to fight with her head or her heart . This is a lovely historic romantic novel and the author has done a lot of research into the period to give the book an authentic touch . The story line holds well and there are lots of twists and turns in the tale to keep you on your toes . This is my first novel I have read by this author but it was thoroughly enjoyable and well worth a read . I would certainly recommend this to anybody that was unsure on historical novels .
