This is a historical romance novel set in Cornwall in 1798. It is centred around a young woman, Amelia, who's mariner husband/ betrothed is missing and presumed dead, so meets a young doctor and falls in love with him, when it is discovered that her previous love is still alive. On his return he is a changed and traumatised man although Amelia tries to stay loyal to him and her earlier feelings she feels that something is not quite right. I don't want to say anymore as I don't want to spoil the story for readers.
This is a pleasant easy read the first half of the story is typical romantic stuff, but it does get very exciting and intreguing about half way through when it comes to light that is man is not who he seems. at this point I found it impossible to put the book down.
I would have liked the book better if there had been more descriptions of the Cornish county side and coastline. Also a map would have helped me to follow the story.
