The cover clearly shows that this is a police and crime mystery but I think there is more to this story than that. It is set in Eastern Germany and on its eastern border which for decades was a closed area to westerners. Not only were the economy, politics and administration very different but social values and their effect upon family life also look set to be explored in this novel.
