A Grave for Two is a story about doping charges and cross country skiing, and it is a throughly enjoyable book. I just wish that I’d had time to read it in large chunks, rather than sporadic snippets - it needs time devoted to it as there are a lot of characters, and a lot of puzzle pieces. The story is slightly confusing from the outset, as we meet characters but are not given any of their background - this is one of those books where facts are drip fed chapter by chapter, and things get less fuzzy the deeper into the book you get.
Selma Falck is a lawyer, for whom things aren’t going too well; she’s left the family home, walked away from her law firm and is living in a crummy apartment. Hege Chin Morell is the darling of Norwegian Cross Country skiing until she fails a routine doping test, her father calls on Selma to investigate and help clear Hege’s name. I’m not going to write anything else about the story, because I don’t want to spoil it.
I really like Selma’s character, and her friend Einar (he is an ex policeman, who is now a tramp living under a bridge) and I hope that there will be many more books with the pair of them in….I’d definitely read them.
