I would definitely be drawn to the cover of this in a bookshop and the synopsis automatically captured my attention, especially because of the time period of 1917 and the element of ghosts.
Within the first impression we are introduced to Captain Robert Donovan and Miss Kate Cartwright. Unbeknownst to Kate, there is a link between herself and Donovan as he was in the trenches where her brother Arthur had lain dying and he had to leave him there. To this day Kate and her family never did get a definitive answer as to what happened to her brother.
Donovan and Kate are invited to meet with C and specifically asked to spend their Christmas in Devon at Lord and Lady Highmount's home whereby they invite guests and attempt to contact the dead. It seems they are going to be required to learn more about some of the other guests in relation to top secret plans re weapon development.
Finally we learn of a mirror within Kate's family, whereby she can tell a version of the future and the past. Secrets only the women in the family can see.
