I was really looking forward to this book when I ordered it; gothic style with mystery, crime and fantasy, all mixed into one package? Definitely my style. Unfortunately I found the execution was severely underachieved and lacked in so many areas. Personally, the book did not live up to its expectations nor the general hype it received.
The first thing that drew me in was initially the title page, which is captivating and beautiful. It definitely captured the general tropes explored within this novel and is highly striking.
However, when I read it, I found the plot was continuously dragging on, with the 'crime' happening MUCH later on in the book. It was quite difficult to come to terms with in the beginning and the paranormal elements did not particularly add to the plot. Overall, I found the book to be quite disappointing, dull and quite frankly ridiculous.
