This tale of the unseen (but are they really?) in the midst of war is gripping. If the story took on a physical presence, it would be an enthralling physique which holds onto you, tight. My opinion on every character, for the most part, changed many times throughout the book which kept me captivated because there wasn't that sense of closure with all the occurrences. It made me want to whiz through the book but at the same time I had to take my time in order to fully grasp the more minor details.
While no one but the author can speak as to what the thesis of this book may be, my perspective on the story reminds me of a quote:
"Ghosts are like history, both from the past but alive" and I think it is so clever the way this book showcases both- ghosts, during the middle of a war which is now a huge stamp on history.
I have decided I want to reread this book, so I can make more sense of the minor details now that I know what the events lead up to. And on that note, I recommend it to everyone.
(Personally, I don't read history-related books but for the first time I did and I can't say I regret it in the slightest.)
